The Iowa Games MTB race has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 7. As of right now I'm guessing that everything with regard to age groups and start times will be the same as the originally planned event. Race info can be found at the following link:
http://www.iowagames.org/SummerGames/MountainBiking.aspx
Additionally, this will also be an IMBCS points race to make up for the cancellation of the IMBCS race at Sugarbottom. IMBCS rules will apply. IMBCS points will be awarded based on the IMBCS category and age groups like every other IMBCS race.
Questions about the event can be directed to either myself or Pat Alvord (515)-418-0135 or patrickalvord@yahoo.com.
Cam KirkpatrickPresident - IMBCSckirkpatrick@cbi.comUrbandale, IA

IMBCS #4 Race Report

News - 2006 Psycowpath Mtb Series

Source - http://www.nebraskacyclingnews.com/

Sunday, 21 May 2006

The Kanesville Krusher XC (hosted by BMD Racing) dished out some series competition on Saturday, with lightning fast downhills to steep out-of-the-saddle climbs. The Beginner event at 10am had near perfect to dusty conditions yielding a very fast course. At approximately 11:15am, however, the skies opened and light rain fell until 12:15, just after the start of the Sport/Expert event. With a vague forecast and questionable conditions on the horizon, the Sport/Expert event was shortened to 2 and 3 laps respectively.

The noon event started in muddy conditions, with riders slipping, crashing, and riding with both feet on the ground down the main chute to the bottom of the bluffs. Amazingly, no major injuries were reported, although plenty of riders came through after one lap with lots of mud on them. As time progressed, conditions became much better, with many riders proclaiming the final lap to be "perfect" conditions with no dust and tacky hardpack.

Cam Kirkpatrick (Rasmussen's) led the day, taking the top spot on the Expert open podium. Close behind Kirkpatrick was Kent McNeill (Highgear), followed by Sam Johnson (Sioux City Velo) with his best finish yet in his first year as an Expert. Coming in fourth place was Greg Shimonek (Highgear), and Jay Chesterman (Sioux City Velo) completed the Expert open podium in fifth.

The Lewis & Clark Kanesville Krusher was the 3rd event of the 2006 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series, and the 2nd of 5 XC events. The 2006 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series continues on June 10 with Ponca's Revenge Marathon, and then again on June 24 with the Swanson River City Shootout XC (rescheduled from April 29).

Editors note: This race was also the 4th event of the 2006 IMBCS presented by Kia of Des Moines of a ten race series. IMBCS #5 is scheduled for the weekend of June 17 / 18 at Sockum Ridge State Park, near Washington, IA (about 30 minutes south of Iowa City).Squirrel was first overall in singlespeed and I think he was also first overall in the sport class.Stay tuned for full results and report.

Cam Kirkpatrick
President - IMBCS
Urbandale, IA

12 Hours of Cedar Valley update

Unfortunately this week I have decided to cancel the 12 hour race. Carl Buchanon, Jeff Kerkove and a few others have put a lot of work into the already existing trails to make the course even better than in years past.

Due to the heavy rains this season, the course will be confined to the north side of the creek. The course will consist of a lap that will be in the neighborhood of 6 – 7 miles. Parking and the race start area will be at the north end of the camp.

Take highway 3 east out of Waverly. Turn right (south) on 39th St. SE. Head south on 39th St. SE to Grand Ave. Continue south on Grand Ave until you get to the main gate, 2485 Grand Ave.

Racing will start at 8:30, with beginners going off first, followed by the scout class at 10. Jim Ghys and the folks at QCFORC (http://www.qcforc.org/Home/tabid/444/Default.aspx) did an outstanding job in successfully putting on the race. The weather was about as close to perfect as you’re going to get, with sunny skies and temps in the lower 60’s. They also did a great job with the course, very technical, tight and twisty. The number of participants doubled from 75 last year to around 150 this year.

I have brief results from the sport and expert races and I only have the last names of some of the participants. In the sport race, Mezo finished in first out of a field of 64 starters in 1:16:53, followed closely by Todd Gillihan (Team Skin) in 1:17:25. Dominic Moranic finished in 3rd in 1:18:00, Cunningham came in 4th in 1:18:20 and Tracy Thompson (Atlas) rounded out the top five in 1:20:00.

In the women’s race, Enslow finished 1st out of a field of 7 starters, followed by Amanda Miller (Atlas) with Jami Hartwig (Team Skin) rounding out the top three.

In the expert race there were 22 starters. Iowa City pro Brian Eppen (Mercy Specialized) won the 9 nine lap race in 1:45:00 followed by Cam Kirkpatrick (Rasmussen Bike Shop) at 1:45:35. Cully Todd (Team Skin) came in 3rd at 1:47:04, Jay Chesterman (Sioux City Velo) came in 4th at 1:47:13 and Butch Welke rounded out the top five in 1:52:13.

Full results and IMBCS series points will be posted later this week so stay tuned.

Cam Kirkpatrick
V.P. – IORCA
Urbandale, IA

IORCA Lands A Title Sponsor

We have some great news! Kia of Des Moines is stepping up to the plate as title sponsor for the IMBCS. This is a huge step forward for us and will go a long way in helping us solidify mountain bike racing in Iowa. I never realized how important sponsors were to mountain bike racing until I got involved in aspects other than just racing. We need to let our sponsors know how much we appreciate what they do for us and the best way to do that is to spread the good word about them and give them our business. So the next time you are out car shopping, please stop by Kia of Des Moines, tell them we sent ya, and consider buying a Kia. They have a lot of vehicles that suit the lifestyle of people like ourselves and would be a great option. A big thanks goes out to Mike Lebeda for his efforts in getting Kia of Des Moines on board.

We also have some associate sponsors that need to be recognized for their efforts. In no particular order:

Kerkove Media (http://kerkovemedia.blogspot.com), Jeff Kerkove, for the many hours of work that he does for mountain biking at little or no charge. He did all of the design work on our IORCA posters, our website (http://iorcahome.blogspot.com) which is still under construction, as well as a number of other projects for other people and organizations. Jeff also has one of the best blogs (http://jeffkerkove.blogspot.com) in existence. Great entertainment at no cost you!

Chippewa Springs Bottled Water provided by Jay Chesterman of the Chesterman Company, Bottlers of Coca-Cola products. Last season Jay brought a couple of cases of Chippewa Bottled Water to every race and plans to do the same for this season.

Bikeiowa.com, the place to go for all cycling news in Iowa.
